Some users ask why PointPerfect’s NTRIP Caster requires a GGA message when connecting. The reason is straightforward: your rover needs corrections that are tailored to its location. By receiving a GGA message, the NTRIP Caster can deliver the most accurate corrections for your specific area. For best results, we recommend that your GGA position be accurate to within 1 km.
What Happens With Your GGA Data
No permanent storage of exact positions. The latitude and longitude are only used in real time to deliver corrections.
Temporary logs for troubleshooting. Logs may be created to help resolve issues. These logs contain limited, obfuscated traffic data, so the precise device location cannot be identified.
Automatic deletion. Logs are deleted after one week or after 1,000 messages, whichever comes first.
No personal data collected. We do not gather any personally identifiable information. At most, we can see that a device was roughly active in a region, but we cannot know who owns it or what it is being used for.
Bottom Line
Sending a GGA message is a necessary step to receive highly accurate corrections. Many RTK correction providers also require this, so it is not an unusual process. At the same time, PointPerfect is designed with privacy in mind. Your exact device location and identity are never stored, tracked, or shared.
