Subscriptions are chargeable from the moment they are activated, whether they are used or not. This means you may be billed even if you did not send any traffic or use the service during that month.
We bill on the 1st of each month for any plans that renewed or expired in the previous month. As a result, charges can appear for a month in which you did not actively use the service, because the plan was still active and billable during that period.
If you want to understand why a charge appeared, you can check the renewal date of your plan in the Thingstream portal. You can also review the system event logs when you deactivate a plan to confirm when it was turned off and when billing stopped.
If you need to stop future charges, log into your portal and deactivate all Things or plans you no longer want to be billed for. You can choose to cancel immediately or from the next renewal date.
Please note that we invoice in arrears on the 1st of the month, so there will always be at least one charge in the invoice run following the date on which the subscription ends. If you deactivate a Thing or plan in the middle of a subscription period, there may be two charges in the next invoice: one for the current period and one for the period that has just renewed or expired.
To avoid future charges, make sure you deactivate the plan before the next renewal date. If you are unsure which plans are still active, check the renewal date in the portal before cancelling.
