Thingstream is the u-blox IoT service delivery platform, and the Thingstream domain is your account used to manage all of your services, access to APIs, acceptance of our terms and conditions, members of your team and billing.
Your main source of navigation in the Thingstream portal is the side bar. The portal interface is dynamic and so options that you see in your side bar may have been filtered to those relevant to the service(s) you are using. To change what is displayed, go to Domain Settings which you'll find by clicking the domain picker at the top of the side bar. You can also manage team members and access other domains that you are a member of from the menu presented in the domain picker section
Dashboard
The dashboard is accessed by clicking on the Thingstream logo on the top of the side bar, and provides you with an at-a-glance view of your domain where you can monitor traffic levels along with any errors or warnings that are being logged.
You can click on any of the widgets to get more detail or jump to the relevant part of the platform, e.g. to jump to a filtered view of active Things, click on the Active Things count on the Active Things widget.
Services
The Services menu gets you access to all of the Things in your domain. A Thing is the representation of a client used to access a service, and the Thing list shows all of your Things. It can be filtered by service type and status using the filter option at the top of the page:
Clicking on a Thing in the list opens the Thing Details page where you can manage it e.g. activate and deactivate, change the plan the Thing is enrolled on, get information about that Thing's activity in the current or historic plan period, manage tags for grouping Things etc.
Downloads
The Downloads section is where you will find SDKs, tools and code snippets for use with our services. What you see here depends on which services you are using. If you can't find what you need, just let us know.
Data Flow Manager
Thingstream provides a powerful data workflow tool to help you work with the data sent by your Things and deliver it to Enterprise IoT platforms, or anywhere you need it to go.
Check out our video demo and take a look at the dedicated Flows guide to learn more.
Billing
When you start, you will have a free domain where you can try out services before purchasing them either with a free trial linked to a campaign or by creating a Thing and using one of our free developer plans.
Once you are ready to start using a service commercially, you'll need to upgrade your domain which you can do via the Billing menu.
Two types of commercial domain are available:
-
Pro
When you upgrade to Pro, you'll need to register a credit card to pay for your plans. We invoice on the 1st of each month for any plans which expired or renewed in the previous month. An invoice is sent on 1st and then we will automatically collect payment 8 days later. If payment collection fails for any reason, you'll receive an email with details of what to do next, otherwise there is no further action that you need to take.
-
Enterprise
Once your monthly usage reaches a level where it is no longer appropriate for you to pay by credit card, you can upgrade to Enterprise and pay by bank transfer. Invoices are still produced on 1st of each month but it is up to you to ensure payment is made promptly by the due date shown on the invoice.
Pooled plans
Some of our services offer pooled plans where a number of Things can consume the service from an allocated pool of usage. The plans can be purchased and managed through the Pooled Plans option in the Billing menu.
Sub Domains
Once you have upgraded to Pro or Enterprise, you have the option to create sub domains. These allow you to organise your services, perhaps to segregate your production and development environments, or to separate different projects or cost centers in your organisation.
Each subdomain has its own list of members to control access, and will have a separate section on your invoice.
The option to create a new sub domain is found in the domain picker on the side bar.
Shop
The shop provides you with links to purchase hardware related to our services.
Reports
The Thingstream platform provides a number of reports that you can run and download to help you manage your services.
Events
The Events page will show information about what is going on in your domain. You can see information about changes to plans, Thing status, and general activity together with details of warnings and errors that have been logged.
If you mouse-over an event, you'll get options that will take you to whatever caused the event, for example you could be taken to the Flow Details page for a specific flow that has triggered a warning event so that you can troubleshoot.
